Turkish merchants introduced marijuana to the Americans in the early twentieth century. Back then drugs like heroin and cocaine were nowhere to be found in America but the psychedelic sixties was an era when all kinds of drugs were smuggled into America and the demand for drugs started increasing. Soon people were snorting lines of cocaine and injecting meth to get the buzz'. The problem of drug addiction followed and a large number of men and women ruined their lives because of drug addiction.

Drugs like cocaine and heroin increase the dopamine levels in the brains that gives the users those popular euphoric feeling. However as the intake of these drugs increases in an individual his tolerance to the drug increases as well and he starts chasing those kicks' by snorting or injecting the drug more than once a day. Physical and psychological dependency on a particular drug is followed by addiction to the drug. Once a person becomes addicted to a particular drug he is likely to spoil his career and his relationships with loved ones. The sense of responsibility is knocked out of a person when he is on drugs and there is no warmth that can be expected from an addict.

In order to provide the right direction to various kinds of drug addicts a number of drug rehabilitation centers have been opened in America. In Florida a large number of treatment centers provide rehab programs for low prices. These treatment programs have proved to be very effective for drug addicts in the past. You can either join a residential program or can undergo treatment at home.

Most drug rehabilitation centers in Florida start the treatment with a physical detox program. The detoxification of the body is important for a person to be able to reach the state of recovery. The toxic elements need to be removed for a patient to get back to a sober life. The removal of toxic elements in the body also helps the organs in the body to regain their respective efficiency. Some addicts might have to go through a long detox program than others. However once the detox program is over the patient can expect a smooth and fast recovery.

A good detox program is followed by counseling sessions spiritual guidance sessions physical development sessions and therapy. All these sessions help the patients to find solutions to their problems that might have led them into the world of drugs in the first place. These sessions also help the patient to learn to lead a sober life with responsibilities. As the treatment progresses the patients understand the importance of a sober life.

Most drug rehabilitation centers in Florida also provide the addicts with a relapse prevention program so that the patients do not fall into a relapse after having undergone treatment at the rehab center. Relapses are not uncommon amongst addicts but these relapses can be avoided if the family members and friends of the concerned individual help him or her to follow the relapse prevention program religiously.
